Okey…
i’ve talk about Transformers. Well… maybe some of you did not understand those region thingy in standard DVD and Blu-ray disc.
maybe u thought it’s the same, but it’s not. ok.. here’s the crap
For standard DVD, as we already know it have 3 main region that we know (although it have 6 in total).
1. Region 1 – US, US territories and Canada
2. Region 2 – UK, Europe, Japan, South Africa and Middle East
3. Region 3 – Southeast and East Asia
Since we’re Malaysian, of course we are in Region 3 list which is also include other country like Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam. All genuine DVD in the shop are already in region 3 unless you purchase it online (amazon.com, ebay.com).
Those DVD in Region 1 & 2 still can be play IF your DVD player is “multi region” or in other words it’s “region-free’ players. Not to forget that your TV must be NTSC-compatible if you’re looking for region 1 DVD. Those new TV have this kind of format. if you have a very-super-duper old skool TV which only have PAL. forget about it.
For Blu-ray Disc is different thing. Blu-ray region divided into 3 region.
1. Region A / 1 – North America, Central America, South America, Japan, Taiwan, North Korea, South Korea, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia
2. Region B / 2 – Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand
3. Region C / 3 – India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Mainland China, Pakistan, Russia, Central and South Asia
See the difference? In standard dvd, Southeast Asia is in region 3 DVD, while in Bluray, we are in region A/1. This mean, we can play those region A/1 Blu-ray disc which is the same like they sell in US. But if you’re planning to buy from amazon.co.uk (which is cheaper) you may need to look for Region free Blu-ray disc since their stock is region B/2. make sure u check it properly to avoid wasting your money.
If you’re not sure which movie is region b locked or free region, you may visit this website to check: http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b
It have a list of Blu-ray movie from region A-C. For a better understanding, I include a picture of Blu-ray disc region:
Orange: Region A
Green: Region B
Purple: Region C

great post !
Thanks!
Most humans doesn’t apperceive abundant about Blu Ray Disc’s. Mostly their ability is bankrupt in few facts: that one individual disc food 25 GB or 50 GB if it’s a bifold layer, which is about 5 or 10 times the accommodation of DVD and gives the accomplished superior video, looks like DVD disc. And what do you apperceive about Blu Ray?
